☕ 1. Masala Chai with Star Anise

Warm and aromatic twist on classic chai.

Ingredients:

• 2 cups water

• 1 star anise

• 2–3 cloves, 1 small cinnamon stick, 2 green cardamoms

• 1 tsp tea leaves or 1 tea bag

• 1 cup milk

• Sugar to taste

Instructions:

1. Boil water with all spices including star anise for 2–3 mins.

2. Add tea leaves and simmer for 2 mins.

3. Add milk and sugar, boil once. Strain and serve hot.

2. Star Anise Biryani (or Pulao)

Adds that subtle sweet-earthy backnote to rice dishes.

Ingredients:

• Basmati rice

• Whole spices: 1 star anise, 1 bay leaf, 2 cloves, cinnamon, cardamom

• Vegetables/meat

• Onion, ginger-garlic paste, green chili

• Yogurt, mint, coriander

Instructions:

1. Heat ghee, add all whole spices including star anise.

2. Add onions, sauté till golden. Add ginger-garlic paste.

3. Add veggies or meat, cook with yogurt and mint.

4. Add soaked rice + water, cook covered till done.

3. Chinese Five-Spice Stir Fry

(Star anise is one of the five spices!)

Ingredients:

• 1 tsp Chinese five-spice mix (or make your own)

• Bell peppers, tofu, baby corn, etc.

• Soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, chili

• Oil, salt

Instructions:

1. Stir-fry garlic and veggies in oil.

2. Add five-spice powder, soy, vinegar.

3. Toss tofu or protein in, stir-fry for a few mins.

4. Serve with jasmine rice or noodles.
